With my holy oil have I anointed him :
With whom my hand shall be established;
Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
The enemy shall not 'exact upon him;
Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

22

And I will beat down his adversaries before him, 23
And smite them that hate him.

But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be 24
with him;

And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will set his hand also on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.

He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father,
My God, and the rock of my salvation.
I also will make him my firstborn,
The highest of the kings of the earth.
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore,
And my covenant shall 'stand fast with him.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever,
And his throne as the days of heaven.

If his children forsake my law,

And walk not in my judgements;

If they break my statutes,

And keep not my commandments;

Then will I visit their transgression with the 32 rod,

And their iniquity with stripes.

But my mercy will I not utterly take from him, 33
Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

My covenant will I not break,

Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
"Once have I sworn by my holiness;

I will not lie unto David;

His seed shall endure for ever,

And his throne as the sun before me.

Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

Thou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant: Thou hast profaned his crown even to the ground. 40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges;

Thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin. 41 All that pass by the way spoil him:

He is become a reproach to his neighbours. 42 Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries;

Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice. 43 Yea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword, And hast not made him to stand in the battle. 44 Thou hast made his brightness to cease,

And cast his throne down to the ground. 45 The days of his youth hast thou shortened : Thou hast covered him with shame.

[Selah 46 How long, O LORD, wilt thou hide thyself for ever? How long shall thy wrath burn like fire?

For what vanity hast thou created all the children of men!

Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they 5 are as a sleep:

In the morning they are like grass which grow

eth up.

In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up;

In the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
For we are consumed in thine anger,

And in thy wrath are we troubled.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee,

Our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

For all our days are passed away in thy wrath : 9 We bring our years to an end as 'a tale that is told.

90

The days of our years are threescore years and 10

ten,

Or even by reason of strength fourscore years;

Yet is their pride but labour and sorrow;
For it is soon gone, and we fly away.
II Who knoweth the power of thine anger,

And thy wrath according to the fear that is due
unto thee?

12 So teach us to number our days,

That we may get us an heart of wisdom.

13 Return, O LORD; how long?

And let it repent thee concerning thy servants. 14 O satisfy us in the morning with thy mercy; That we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us,

And the years wherein we have seen evil.

16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, And thy glory upon their children.

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High

'Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in whom I trust.

3 For he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,

And from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his pinions,

And under his wings shalt thou take refuge:
His truth is a shield and a buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night,
Nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 For the pestilence that walketh in darkness,

Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

1For thou, O LORD, art my refuge!
Thou hast made the Most High thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee,

Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
To keep thee in all thy ways.

They shall bear thee up in their hands,
Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

The young lion and the serpent shalt thou

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore 14 will I deliver him:

I will set him on high, because he hath known

my name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; 15

I will be with him in trouble:

I will deliver him, and honour him.

And shew him my salvation.

A Psalm, a Song for the sabbath day.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, I
And to sing praises unto thy name, O Most

High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the 2 morning,

And thy faithfulness every night,

With an instrument of ten strings, and with the 3 psaltery;

With a solemn sound upon the harp.

For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy 4 work :
