Yea, I have a goodly heritage.

I have set the LORD always before me:
Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be

A Prayer of David.

Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry;
Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of
feigned lips.

Let my sentence come forth from thy presence;
'Let thine eyes look upon equity.

Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited
me in the night;

Thou hast tried me, and "findest nothing;

I am purposed that my mouth shall not trans-
gress.

4 As for the works of men, by the word of thy lips
I have kept me from the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to thy paths,
My feet have not slipped.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer
me, O God:

Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. 7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest them which put their trust in thee "From those that rise up against them, by thy right hand.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye,

Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

9 From the wicked that spoil me,

My deadly enemies, that compass me about.

10 'They are inclosed in their own fat:

4 Or, Thine

eyes behold with equity

5 Or, findest no evil purpose

in me; my

mouth &c.

With their mouth they speak proudly.
They have now compassed us in our steps:
They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.
He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,
And as it were a young lion lurking in secret
places.

Arise, O LORD,

1Confront him, cast him down:

Deliver my soul from the wicked by thy sword;
From 'men, by thy hand, O Lord,

'From men of the world, whose portion is in
this life,

And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure:
They are satisfied with children,

And leave the rest of their substance to their
babes.

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the
servant of the LORD, 'who spake unto the LORD
the words of this song in the day that the LORD
delivered him from the hand of all his enemies,
and from the hand of Saul: and he said,

I love thee, O LORD, my strength.

I

The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my 2
deliverer;

My God, my strong rock, in him will I trust;
My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my
high tower.

I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be 3
praised:

So shall I be saved from mine enemies.

The cords of death compassed me,

Heb. Belial. And the floods of ungodliness made me

afraid.

18

5

The cords of Sheol were round about me:
The snares of death came upon me.

6 In my distress I called upon the LORD,
And cried unto my God:

7

He heard my voice out of his temple,

And my cry before him came into his ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled,

The foundations also of the mountains moved
And were shaken, because he was wroth.

8 There went up a smoke 'out of his nostrils,
And fire out of his mouth devoured:
Coals were kindled by it.

9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down;
And thick darkness was under his feet.

10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly:

Yea, he flew swiftly upon the wings of the wind. II He made darkness his hiding place, his pavilion round about him;

Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.

12 At the brightness before him his thick clouds.

13

passed,

Hailstones and coals of fire.

The LORD also thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered his voice;
Hailstones and coals of fire.

14 And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them;
'Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.
15 Then the channels of waters appeared,
And the foundations of the world were laid bare,
At thy rebuke, O LORD,

At the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. 16 He sent from on high, he took me ;

3

He drew me out of many waters.

17 He delivered me from my strong enemy,

And from them that hated me, for they were too mighty for me.

18 They came upon me in the day of my calamity:

But the LORD was my stay.

19

He brought me forth also into a large place;
He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my right- 20

eousness;

According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

For I have kept the ways of the LORD,

And have not wickedly departed from my God.
For all his judgements were before me,
And I put not away his statutes from me.
I was also perfect with him,

And I kept myself from mine iniquity.

21

22

23

Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me ac- 24 cording to my righteousness,

According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; 25 With the perfect man thou wilt shew thyself perfect;

With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure;

And with the perverse thou wilt shew thyself
froward.

For thou wilt save the afflicted people;
But the haughty eyes thou wilt bring down.
For thou wilt light my lamp:

The LORD my God will lighten my darkness.

1 Or, through For by thee I run 1upon a troop;

And by my God do I leap over a wall.
As for God, his way is perfect:

The word of the LORD is tried;

He is a shield unto all them that trust in him.
For who is God, save the LORD?

And who is a rock, beside our God?

The God that girdeth me with strength,
And maketh my way perfect.
He maketh my feet like hinds' feet :
And setteth me upon my high places.
He teacheth my hands to war;
