˹éÒ 34 - Let a man overcome anger by love, let him overcome evil by good ; let him overcome the greedy by liberality, the liar by truth...
˹éÒ 57 - I have conquered all, I know all, in all conditions of life I am free from taint ; I have left all, and through the destruction of thirst I am free ; having learnt myself, whom shall I teach ?' 354. The gift of the law exceeds all gifts ; the sweetness of the law exceeds all sweetness ; the delight in the law exceeds all delights; the extinction of thirst overcomes all pain.
˹éÒ 5 - LONG is the night to him who is awake ; long is a mile to him who is tired ; long is life to the foolish who do not know the true law.
˹éÒ 31 - He who walks in the company of fools suffers a long way; company with fools, as with an enemy, is always painful; company with the wise is pleasure, like meeting with kinsfolk.
˹éÒ 32 - Let, therefore, no man love anything; loss of the beloved is evil. Those who love nothing, and hate nothing, have no fetters. From pleasure comes grief, from pleasure comes fear ; he who is free from pleasure knows neither grief nor fear.
˹éÒ 22 - Eternal (visankhara, nirvana), has attained to the extinction of all desires. Men who have not observed proper discipline, and have not gained wealth in their youth, perish like old herons in a lake without fish. Men who have not observed proper discipline, and have not gained wealth in their youth, lie, like broken bows, sighing after the past.
˹éÒ 30 - WE live happily indeed, not hating those who hate us ! among men who hate us we dwell free from hatred ! We live happily indeed, free from ailments among the ailing! among men who are ailing let us dwell free from ailments ! We live happily indeed, free from greed among the greedy ! among men who are greedy let us dwell free from greed...
˹éÒ 32 - He who possesses virtue and intelligence, who is just, speaks the truth, and does what is his own business, him the world will hold dear.
