Harvard Usity Dept. of Education Library My Publishers COPYRIGHT, 1912, BY CHESTER WILLIAM COLLMANN ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 812.3 The Athenæum Press PREFACE This little volume is an earnest attempt to supply a long-felt want on the part of teachers of German-a small, interesting, well-rounded collection of favorite German poems, carefully graded and edited for use in schools having only the two-year course in German, but equally suitable for an introductory book for more advanced pupils in larger schools and colleges. The editor has drawn assistance from many sources, and desires to acknowledge frequent and valuable assistance from the collections by Hatfield, Dillard, Buchheim, and others. He also wishes to make grateful acknowledgment to the many teachers who directly or indirectly have assisted in preparing the book; also to Mr. J. D. Diehl, of the German department of the University of Wisconsin, for many valuable hints and for his painstaking care in revising the manuscript. WEST SALEM, WISCONSIN C. W. C. |
