This is the inheritance of 28 the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof. And Moses gave inheritance unto the half 29 tribe of Manasseh: and it was for the half tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families. And their border was from 30 Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: and half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the children of Machir according to their families. 31 These are the inheritances which Moses 32 distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward. But unto the 33 tribe of Levi Moses gave none inheritance: the LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he spake unto them. And these are the inheritances which the 14 children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed unto them, by the lot of their inheritance, as the LORD 2 commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe. For Moses had 3 given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe beyond Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them. For 4 the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the 'suburbs thereof for their cattle and 1 Or, pasture 5 for their substance. As the LORD commanded lands 6 Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land. Then the children of Judah drew nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD spake unto Moses the man of God concerning me and con7 cerning thee in Kadesh-barnea. Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was 8 in mine heart. Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt but I wholly followed the LORD my 9 God. And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy foot hath trodden shall be an inheritance to thee and to thy children for ever, because thou hast wholly fol10 lowed the LORD my God. As yet am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, and to go out 12 and to come in. Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fenced: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I 13 shall drive them out, as the LORD spake. And Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. I 1 That is, The city of Arba. And the east border was the Salt Sea, 5 even unto the end of Jordan. And the border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of Jordan: and the border went 6 up to Beth-hoglah, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben: and 7 the border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel and the border went up by the valley 8 of the son of Hinnom unto the side of the Jebusite southward (the same is Jerusalem): and the border went up to the top of the Heb. shoulder. mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the uttermost part of the 9 vale of Rephaim northward: and the border was drawn from the top of the mountain unto the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah (the same is 10 Kiriath-jearim): and the border turned about from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim on the north (the same is Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed along by Timnah : II and the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shikkeron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel; and the goings out of the 12 border were at the sea. And the west border was to the great sea, and the border thereof. This is the border of the children of Judah round about according to their families. 13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even 'Kiriath-arba, which Arba was 1 That is, The 14 the father of Anak (the same is Hebron). And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to 17 wife. And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah 18 his daughter to wife. And it came to pass, when she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted down from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, 1 Or, present What wouldest thou? And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the 21 children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur; and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah; 22 and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan; Ziph, and 23, 24 Telem, and Bealoth; and Hazor-hadattah, and 25 Kerioth-hezron (the same is Hazor); Amam, 26 and Shema, and Moladah; and Hazar-gaddah, 27 and Heshmon, and Beth-pelet; and Hazar-shual, 28 and Beer-sheba, and Biziothiah; Baalah, and 29 Iim, and Ezem; and Eltolad, and Chesil, and 30 Hormah; and Ziklag, and Madmannah, and 31 Sansannah; and Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and 32 Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages. In the lowland, Eshtaol, and Zorah, and 33 Ashnah; and Zanoah, and En-gannim, Tap- 34 puah, and Enam; Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, 35 and Azekah; and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and 36 Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages. Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-gad; and 37, 38 Dilan, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel; Lachish, and 39 3 Or, Lahmas Bozkath, and Eglon; and Cabbon, and 'Lahmam, 40 and Chithlish; and Gederoth, Beth-dagon, and 41 Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages.
